Description
Long broad upswept wings with buff linings, prominent barred fingertips and cream half-moon at base of primaries. Tail is long and broad,pale dark streaked head; slight crest; rufous dark streaked body, blackish back; fawn mark on shoulder. Eye pale, legs and feet flesh-coloured. Immature: paler, dappled chestnut-brown above.
Habits
Diurnal, Solitary or well dispersed in territorial pairs, pairing is permanent, and same nest may be used every year.
Habitat
Grassland Woodland, Open eucalypt forests, woodlands and sandplains of coastal and subcoastal mainland.
Breeding
August September October November December, 2 to 3; dull white, spotted red-brown & lav. Incubaion 35-42 days, mainly done by female, young fledge in 8-10 wks.
